Have you heard the latest out of Ontario?   The so-called 'contract' signed by Windsor Raceway and the 'new horsepeoples group' is being challenged in a multi-million dollar lawsuit brought by the OHHA (Ontario Harness Horsemen's Association.)   The new group from what we've learned has all of three 'members' that aren't even horsemen!   THREE MEMBERS!   One is related to Frank Stronach - well known mega bucks track owner largely into thorobred racing.   This is incredible arrogance in my opinion and a slap in the face of horsemen.   The intent of the slots at raceway's in Ontario was/is to support 'live racing.'   If that's the case, any profits during the current boycott should be immediately escrowed into the horsemen's purse account to be used when racing resumes.  The track owners there at Windsor are making the bucks via the one-armed bandits while the horsemen are getting shafted.   Seems pretty clear where their priorities are and it isn't with harness racing.....

Did they get a lot of entries at windsor?  What a joke up there.  I hope the track management gets their licences taken away.

Absolutely, Kellytuc....and no, entries if any, have been insufficient to produce a racing card, according to the track's own website.    OHHA members with the support of their friends in neighboring States are boycotting the entry box, as well they should.  Management there has got to learn a valuable (?) lesson in that this sort of travesty cannot be tolerated.

Once again Dale, you have to ask yourself if management even gives a damn if there is live racing. Unfortunately slots are being allowed to continue, and thats the money maker.

BTW I was looking at an Evangeline Downs program yesterday. Maiden race going for 18,000. Contribution from the slot fund 14,500. Slots are a great thing, but they cannot support racing forever. That is a scary figure.

it seems that the number of race dates to be held at windsor is the sticking point... the track only wants to have 103 live dates during the year...horseman want 150 or so.. and the provincial govt. authorized 125 .. the agreement with the 'new association' i agree  is a sham ...
the difference is that there are many opportunities at other tracks in ontario for horseman to race and horsemen should be prepared for windsor to close and be ready to race elsewheres

Such great minds thinking alike, here - its almost scary!  I concur, Stan, management does not seem to care about the live racing product and Off Strides observation about horsemen finding another place to race seems to be right on the money.   Windsor has been steadily chipping away at race dates and that translates into less opportunities to race the horses.   Meanwhile, the sound of 'cha-ching cha-ching' in the casino still rings on.....
