There was a late scratch at the gate and the wrong horse was announced as scratched and removed from the wagering pool. The race goes off and the "scratched" horse runs second but is announced as a non-parimutuel runner. Now the horses that ran 3rd and 4th are moved up to be 2nd and 3rd. Now comes an objection from the rider of the new 3rd place horse against the new 2nd place horse for stretch interferance. after a good long look the stewards take down the 2nd place finisher and move up the 3rd place finisher reversing their order. Can you imagine how many people were affected by all of this?

Good grief, there were more twists in that than a soap opera!

Stranges things all over the place today.  Picked this up from 'Binder' on the Pace Advantage website:

No Contest

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yet another miscue at the starting gate at Philly Park today

in race 8. The 1a half of the entry the 4 ,6,and 7 were all left in the gate
The race ended up a three horse race by the 1 2 and 5

After the # 1 horse won the race the officials called off the race. All money was returned
You can bring in slots talk about the great improvement to the purses
But this is very bad and its not the first time. Its been happening far to often
Come on now can we get a new gate !
Stange the 3 was scratched and the entry ran
so the post position was 1 2 4 1a 5 6 7
the 4 6 1a and 7 gates never opened

According to the Equibase chart, the #4 horse, Ambling, was incorrectly scratched at the gate by the track vet, therefore declared a non-started but allowed to run for purse money.

Reports from unreliable sources are that the track vet forgot to turn his clock back, and started in on his usual fifth of bourbon at his regular time.
