While watching the BC today, I took the time to raid some of my video collection.

It's time to relive moments that make us love the sport.  I'll be posting them as I get them onto the server!

Best,
EW

good breeders cup day

only one horse broke his leg and was put right down

=====================

NEW YORK (AP) - Funfair was euthanized Saturday after fracturing a hind leg in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Belmont Park.

The horse from Britain, ridden by Edgar Prado, pulled up along the backstretch shortly after the race began. Prado dismounted, and the injured six-year-old gelding continued running around the track as the race continued.

Prado was uninjured, and returned to finish second aboard Society Selection in the Distaff. Funfair was finally stopped by track personnel, but the injury proved untreatable and the horse was euthanized on the track.

"He sustained an open fracture of the right behind cannon bone," said Dr. C. Wayne McIlwraith, the Belmont Park veterinarian. He described it as "a catastrophic injury."

It's the 3yo IL-bred final from Springfield!

I may -- have so many tapes it could take weeks to find it.  I'll try to look for it tomorrow.  Until then, enjoy the show!

After dominating in Springfield, the hopes were high for Without Reproach on Super Night 1994.

Let's take a look at the Langley!

Let's do some mid 90s Hawthorne, winter racing of course!

1995 was a great year at Hawthorne...Peter was calling during the day, and Tony took the mic at night.  Unlike now, we were lucky enough to get all the replays on TV...

During the day, there was a young fellow that hosted the afternoon replay show...a short clip just for nostalgia.

And now it's time to pick up the action at the 1995 Hawthorne meet.

Bret's Avenger was about as good as ever in February of 1995 -- here he is getting by Staying Together and Ball and Chain to set a track record!

Also hot in that 1995 meet was Anxious Nate RK.  I think he rattled off something like seven or eight in a row for Horvath...

Here's Nate in the IHHA Series final...

Working on it.  1996 may be MIA because that was in between the Chicago Racing Report and the Sportschannel show -- but I may have something lying around.  I definitely have 1997, so I'll be on the lookout.

I'm currently copying video to my server -- expect another 10-15 within the next couple hours!

If you weren't around the track in the mid 90s, and you look at the track records -- there will be one that sticks out at you:

She's A Great Lady winning in 51 and change at Maywood...as a 3yo filly...in 1995.

If you want to see how, here you go:

Malabar Man was an amazing trotter -- but there was one stake in his 3yo season he didn't claim -- The World Trotting Derby.

Watch him and Lord Stormont battle: http://www.ewilliamrose.com/videos/1997wtd.mpg

The raceoff final half?  55 flat!
