I read a post about Chicago and Las vegas !

I agree Las Vegas has better weather most of the year but that about all !  Chicago has great summers with that wonderful breeze from the lake . If you are a couple without children or single las Vegas might be Ok , But if you have a family and like to do things together like going to the beach or the museum or planetarium or the 2 great zoo's and all the great parks in the summer to have picnic's with your family its the place to live , there are too many things to mention that can be done with your children in chicago that you cannot do in Las Vegas . And as far as job opportunities its not even close , the sky is the limit on what kind of job you can get in Chicago ! Lets face the truth casino after casino whats the difference ? One casino has a better decor than the other , its a great tourist place thats for sure ! But to raise a family I would'nt think its a great place in comparison to Chicago's metropolitan area . Again not close ! I myself would'nt mind living in Las Vegas because I'm a gambler and not intereseted in seeing the great places chicago has to offer that I've already seen in my life , but thats me and gamblers are really a minority most people go out and enjoy themselves every weekend with a variety of activities they can do ! Sorry Joe its not close except its a personal preference for sure !  The thing about mugging !  Thats a joke more people are mugged in Vegas than anywhere on earth . You know are friend Eric got mugged twice and they almost killed him after they got all the money !  Sports how could you even say anything about sports as a knock of Chicago .  We had the great Bears win a super bowl we had the Sox win a world series and we all know about the Bulls era ! We at least have teams to talk about and root for every year !  We have some of the finest golf courses in the Chicago area !  The only thing Vegas has is a college basketball team ! there just is'nt any comparison for normal people with families between the 2 cities and thats a fact !  I would'nt want to raise my children teaching them casino game strategies . Las vegas is for guys like me who like taking chances , not for the majority of people who are looking for other things in life . I'm not even going to go into education about our schools it would'nt be fair !   Joe Vegas is for guys like me and you and quite a few posters but like I said we are a minority unfortunately !  my final comparison is very simple Chicago hosted the worlds fair and will now host the Olympics !

Enough said but thats the real truth !

I will miss the 4 seasons if I ever move to Vegas !

But by that time I wont be missing it for too long anyways !

P.S    Today there was a great windy city breeze as I took my daily walk and I did'nt get mugged !      Good luck gambling all !

rpb ,     Thank you for adding to the post .

I'm sure there are other posters who can explain the differences better than I .  i just touched on a few advantages of living in Chicago compared to Vegas . How about Great America a 45 minute ride for the kids ! How about the convenience of be able to take the train anywhere rather than bumper to bumper traffic . how about racetracks like Arlington a showplace of a track and even though its gone Spk a memory no one in Vegas will ever have unless they were in chicago at the height of harness racing !
One more thing , as much as the population rises as a growing city Vegas is now , the rapid escalation of crime has surpassed the growth population by far every year .  Liberace !    That was good !

Dan Nance used to say they needed Las Vegas Downs because people of Las Vegas were bored and needed something to do. That's all you need to know about Las Vegas and culture.

It's the filthiest city I ever saw also. Litter everywhere it looks like a third world country. Ugly as sin. If you walk a block off the strip or Fremont it's a slum. No civic pride. hogslop can keep it.

I'll tell you the very best place to live....It is where ever the hell YOU want to live...I'm sure arguments (good and bad) could be made for every city and every state on the map but the bottom line is you'll live where you want to or where you have to.

Las Vegas has highest vehicle theft in U.S.

A survey released on Tuesday by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) showed that Las Vegas is the metro area with the highest rate of vehicle theft in the United States.

The NICB said in 2006, 22,441 vehicles were stolen in Las Vegas-Paradise which gave it the highest theft rate. The rate is determined by the number of theft per 100,000 inhabitants.

Release today 04/24/07.

Dan your right I only know the strip .  As far as families gamblers have families that does'nt mean its the right place to raise children ! please Dan your off setting me with things to do !  mountain climbing and hiking and forget about lake mead , we have lake michigan no comparison and very close ! Snowboard and skiing we can do that every winter without leaving the neighborhood . I'm not much for bringing the children for a day of mountain climbing I would rather take them to a ballgame or a museum to learn something about science or our culture . Hiking are you kidding thats just walking aimlessly for exercise that you can do anywhere ! Those are'nt good arguements to compare the 2 cities . Summerlin where you live looks beautiful ,but we have beautiful clean areas in the suburbs ! just no mountains in the backround . Dan your an adult and Vegas is for adults and if people want to bring their children up in Vegas thats their perogative , but dont you think there chances of being a gambler when they grow up are pretty high in percentages ?  Not knowing Vegas does'nt mean I dont know where children have a better chance to grow up without gambling distractions ! Dont even compare the job situation and the amount of money you can make working in the 2 cities other than casino employees who make a descent buck tell me what other jobs you can get to make big money for the educated person ! Dan check out Vegas crime rate the past few years on the computer and see how its soaring .  People on the board of trade make millions everyday ! Its ridiculous to comment on opportunities between the 2 cities . Again Vegas is for guys like me ! If you dont believe me take the time to read up on the 2 cities .  The comment about the Olympics big deal !  Well it is a big deal since every major city in the world would like to hold the olympics at one time . Chicago will have the honor !  its not the world series of poker but its something just a wee wee bit bigger dont you think !  I guess we could go on and on but its just a personal preference where you live and raise your children . I'm not to sure about the park thing , but you dont have enough water for the greens on golf courses thats why there are'nt any major golf tournaments held there , to much sand and heat !  The main thing is you can knock chicago about the harness racing experience you had where you were treated unfairly !  the city of Chicago had nothing to do with that and still is one of the greatest cities in the world for a lot of reasons . Thats my opinion and many many others in this world that know nothing about gambling and live normal lives , something you or I have ever tried in a way . You can show me the sights the next time I visit ( BUT NO MOUNTAIN CLIMBING THATS FOR GOATS AND I BET ENOUGH OF THEM )
