Does anyone know if that catalog is out.  I have requested one twice from ITBOF with no success.  Makes it tough to buy a horse if you can't get a catalog.  The sale is 11 days

It was mailed out last week. Odd that you haven't received a reply from the ITBOF, though.

I haven't recieved a catalog either. Do you need to request them? I thought that if one is a member of the ITHA and ITBOF that it would be automatic to recieve the catalogs.

You can get pretty a decent 2 year old for not a lot of money here in Illinois. I don't remember what the high price was last year, but I seem to remember something like 70k (I might be way off though). Try to find an Illinois folded because they will compete for "added" money in open races here at the Illinois tracks.

Highly doubtful I am buying, highly, but i would want an Il bred just to support the state, IL Racing, and try to get one of those IL stakes races

Every 2 yo that breezes and goes through the ring is automatically entered next year in a special stakes race at Hawthorne. I think it's a 45k purse.

How do the prices compare to statebreds in other states where the purses are much higher, maybe due to a racino?

/I'm not talking about KY or NY or CA. Suppose you had money to buy a horse anywhere, but wanted to buy a statebred in whatever state to get their bonus statebred purses. Would Illinois be at or near the top of the list, or would some place like Virginia or Louisiana or whatever be better?

Is there any place to get a catalog for the sale?
Why don't they send out a catalog to the membership?

The auctions are a lot of fun, Scav, even when you aren't buying. Just listen to all that's going on around you, and get yourself a beer and a sandwich.

There's usually catalogs laying around the racing office if you don't want to go all the way to the backside, at least there has been in past years.

I haven't watched them work yet, nor will I until I get to the tent to watch them work BUT in the catalog the two that I have interest in are Hip 14 and Hip 42

Hip 14 is by Yankee Gentlemen and has Clever Trick as a broodmare sire, this horse is bred to absolutely fly and will win one of those illinois bred 2 year old races quite easily IMO

Hip 42 is by Prime Timber out of a Miner's Mark mare, and a horse that will also win early. With Arlington getting poly, which has been easier on turf horses, another that can win first out and probably last 9 panels. Some serious turf breeding with this horse

All:

While this is clearly the best book we have scene in years I will bet that at least 2/3rds of the horses are buy backs. It is really a shame and unfortunately the breeze rule to qualify for the Illinois stakes race just raises the number of buybacks.

Having said that the quality is far better than the last two years. bull

The chances of there being a good crowd at Hawthorne on a drizzly Wednesday morning to watch 2yo workouts, and take up the Exbourne chant, well ... let's just say, not good.  thumbs down

It's a real muddy mess here at Hawthorne this am.  Track is hard.  The talk among trainers is if the track does not get better ( it has stopped raining ) we'll gallop not breeze.  No use taking a shot with a horse whose knees may not be closed yet or shins might be tender.  That won't do the buyers or the sellers any good ( or the horses ).

Thanks G.
Will the horses still be able to run in the stakes because they galloped instead of breezed?

Just a complete joke not to have the book on-line.  Any two bit web operator would scan the book into a PDF file for $50 or less.

Who is going to be at the sale?  I'm going and would like to meet some of you guys.

I'm not going because they are to cheap to put a catalog online. They must have nothing but shit horses, and don't want anyone to see before the sale.

There is NO WAY that I will enter any of my 4 yearlings into next years 2 yo sale in Illinios if they refuse to post a catalog online. I would rather go to any state wherwe they do it right.

In 2009 I will have 7 - 2yo's.
In 2010 I will have 12 - 2yo's.

If the ITBOF doesn't care about us owners and breeders - why should we care about them??

Better yet.

I will make an offer to the ITBOF and Arrigo Auctioneers.

Send me the catalog via e-mail or messinger, and I will post it on my personal website so that all can view it. I will also create a link page just for "Illinois Auction" so that everyone that is interested can easily find it.

This sale would do so much better if it were later in June and still at AP. If it were in June all the Illinois buy backs from the other sales from March, April and May could come back and go in the sale here. HUGE marketing mistake moving the sale from AP back to Hawthorne. But if there is a group more bassackwards than the ITHA its the ITBOF! Just look at the timing on this sale, the April OBS sale ends on Friday and the sale here is Saturday. Totally cuts out any consignor that even MIGHT try and sell here who has horses at OBS in April. Bad planning for the date bad marketing with no catalog on line. Still wish them luck and hope they do better next year planning the sale.

Jesus H., I never heard such whining! The catalogs are right where they have always been, every year since Hector was a pup, whether at Hawthorne or AP, on a table next to the license office. Get one of your many Hawthorne contacts to pick one up for you, or better yet, go to the track and get one for yourself like everyone else did.

That said, this is the new Millennium. They must have created this on a computer and it's so simple to post it to a web site. I'm surprised Haw didn't just post it.

/That said, our office is no better. We have certain documents that lawyers want to use to get potential clients and their minions have to come in twice a week or so and write down the information. One woman brings a portable copier. It's just stupid. I offered to put these docs on a web site, but noooooooooo!
