Strike talk was the buzz at Trackside tonight.  Is there going to be a strike ?  I also heard a group of three guys talking about barn to wire.  I guess this is pretty popular.

If the decision is made to strike at the end of the year the horsemen should handle it similar to the way
Bloomberg dealt with the striking union.   Most Mayors would have caved in to the pressure of the strike and given way too much in compensation while the workers were still out on strike just to get them back to work.

Bloomberg said "We won't even TALK with you unless you get back to work FIRST".  That, combined with a 1 million dollar a day penalty and lost days of work got the "powerful" union to cave immediately and get their members back to work without ANY concessions received yet.

The reverse should be done with the horseman.  The stall rent is a ridiculous "ruse" just to distract the horseman--it should simply be ignored.  Horsemen need to decide amongst themselves FIRST what they absolutely need to have at a MINIMUM.  If they can't agree to the minimum they are willing to strike for it is simply a lost cause and ultimately horseman will cave in and start putting entries in the box.

Once there are MINIMUM "must haves" agreed on by the horseman themselves--THAT'S IT--
unless it is received without exception there is NO END TO THE STRIKE--PERIOD.   If the
requests are reasonable, they will be agreed to by the tracks--it's just that the horseman have
NEVER been 100% united in what they were willing to accept at a minimum.

Dear Trotter:

I echo your post Trotter.

If you don't have goals what you want to accomplish, there is no unification.

Everyone needs to be informed and have a set strategy.

No strategy, no unification, no racing.

When you strike, you have to stick to your guns.

If you waffle, your dead.  You have another bad deal for another year.

Hang together.

I know, trainers, drivers, owners and horses are hungry.

There is going to be no satisfactory resolution if you are not going to be united.  Stick together.  Formulate a game plan and implement it.
