...on winning $1875 in today's free Pick 5 contest at Hawthorne -- one of 2 people to correctly select winners in races 3 thru 7.

The first two winners were giant prices, I might add.

Hey, Mr. Smarty-Smarty Terry -- how come you never won a free Pick 5 contest at Arlington Park?

Thanks, HV. Did you notice I even tucked in my shirt for TV?

As for winning one at AP, well, maybe someday.

Speaking of things AP, I saw John Frank's brother at Hawthorne today. This guy was wearing the long denim shorts just like John Frank, but underneath he had tight forest green sweat pants. Groovy shoes down below. Quite the ensemble.

Congrats on the victory. Nancy (and her husband) were in the handicapping center, so we were all excited when she won part of the prize with you.

I am looking forward to seeing your picture in next weeks program

LOL! Yeah, it would have been the thing to do to stop over and buy some beers, wouldn't it. But I had to take Ted up to the Mud Bug in time for him to catch the Hollywood Futurity from there.

The most interesting part of the whole Pick 5 affair was during the 7th, not because I was feeling any big pressure or anything, but because Chris Block came and stood right in front of us to watch the race on a monitor. I told Ted we'd watch Chris' reactions to see how my fortunes were going. Early on, when Creative Force was so far behind and parked wide on the first turn, Chris did not look at all happy, and we were sure my Pick 5 was down the drain. Watching the horse make the big move up the backstretch, and keep moving very wide around the 2nd turn, Chris perked up quite a bit, then during the battle down the stretch Chris was riding that horse as hard as Eddie P., whooping and hollering and exhorting - people were looking at him, because it was quite a display even by Hawthorne standards. Then all of a sudden he started celebrating very loudly and I knew "we" had it won. But I was happier for Chris than for me. I've never seen him carry on like that.
