I am crushed!  He was a great guy and a friend to many of us regular horse fans at Arlington.  We were able to see what the world of racing was like and is like through his eyes.  We have lost a good one from the racing scene.  As we like to say of people like him, he had a great life, and in his case, it certainly was an interesting, thoroughly lived life.  I will miss him.  RIP, Bobby!

R.L was a great friend of mine. He always spoke the truth and stood up for his children. He would tell you a story from time to time. I met him through Frank Calabrese. R.L. will be missed in the backstretch during the AP meets. He would always play Gin Rummy with the horsemen. R.L. will be missed. RIP Robert L. Baird.

Bobbie Baird rode in the most amazing race I ever saw. It was at spts(what a great era that was) A 6 furlong event. He had about the 4 or 5 slot, they went into the first turn tightly bunched as they usually did when his horse clips the heels of another or just gets slammed real hard. The horses face touches the ground, Baird somehow stays on the horse ,obviously loses lots of ground but comes on to WIN THE RACE. Amazing! Many years later I approached him and mentioned what an unbelievable race he rode in and he remembered it He was a Great front runner. Thank you Bobbie Baird . You were one of a kind!
