Here's a Freehold race today where not a single trifecta ticket with the 39-1 winner on top had the 11-1 second-place finisher in the 2-hole. The pool was over $3K. So 25 percent of the pool was paid on 5-all-all-all (75 percentn carried over) and you received far less than you would on a win bet:
