RECORD COMMON POOL HANDLE FOR BREEDERS’ CUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AT CHURCHILL DOWNS
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 4, 2006) – Preliminary wagering totals from all common pool sources on the 10-race card of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships held Saturday at Churchill Downs established a new Breeders’ Cup record of $136,726,378. This breaks the old mark of $123,978,241 set last year at Belmont Park.
Today’s record figure does not include separate pool wagering, and a limited number of international wagering outlets. These combined figures will be released next week.
A record on-track total of $18,259,971 was wagered by the crowd of 75,132 on the 10-race card at Churchill Downs. This full-card on-track total breaks the previous Breeders’ Cup record of $16,346,688 set at the 2003 Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita Park.
A total of $4,786,481 was wagered on the Ultra Pick 6. There were two winning tickets, each worth $1,450,707. One ticket was purchased at Hinsdale Greyhound in New Hampshire and the other ticket was purchased through XpressBet in Oregon. There were 85 consolation tickets worth $11,318.
