NTRA, SPORTSLINE.COM PARTNERING ON NTRA CHAMPIONS/BREEDERS' CUP ONLINE PROMOTION
In conjunction with the "NTRA Champions" series currently airing on CBS Sports, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) and Sportsline.com are joining forces in an online sweepstakes in which a fan will be randomly selected to win a trip for two to the 2001 Breeders' Cup in New York. The trip includes roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations for two nights and two tickets to the October 27 Breeders' Cup at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. Fans have until July 31 to visit Sportsline.com, ntra.com, or breederscup.com and register for the sweepstakes, which has already attracted more than 1,500 entrants since its debut on June 8.
As part of the agreement, Sportsline.com is promoting the contest with banner advertisements on its site that will generate more than one million impressions. In addition, Sportsline.com will include the NTRA Champions Sweepstakes in one of its daily e-mail newsletters each week plus all of its contest-related e-mail newsletters. For the duration of the promotion, the NTRA will be the "Presenting Sponsor" of Sportsline.com's horseracing pages.
"We're very pleased to team up with Sportsline.com on this promotion that will help us add to our substantial database of horseracing fans and also drive viewership of the 'NTRA Champions' series on CBS Sports," said Keith Chamblin, vice president of industry relations and marketing for the NTRA.
The "NTRA Champions" series began June 10 and features 11 key races in Classic (dirt) and Turf division horseracing in the United States. The four-program, five-hour series will be broadcast over a seven-week period during the months of June and July, and will include total purse offerings of $5,150,000 plus bonus money for those competing in the Classic division.
The series continues this Saturday, June 16, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. (ET) with the second of four telecasts. Saturday's program on CBS Sports will feature live coverage of the $750,000 Stephen Foster Handicap from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., and the Dallas Turf Cup Handicap from Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Tex.
On July 1, the series will spotlight four important races including the $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup from Hollywood Park. The series concludes July 28 with the $750,000 Whitney Handicap from Saratoga and the $250,000 Arlington Handicap from Arlington Park.
The NTRA is a broad-based coalition of horseracing interests, including the American Quarter Horse Association, charged with increasing awareness of Thoroughbred racing and improving economic conditions for industry participants. The NTRA also conducts the Breeders' Cup, Thoroughbred racing's year-end Championship consisting of eight races and $13 million in purses and awards, and the Breeders' Cup National Stakes Program, which are funded by the industry's owners and breeders. The NTRA has offices in Lexington, Ky., and New York City. A compendium of NTRA press releases appears on the NTRA Web site, ntra.com, and at the Web site for the Breeders' Cup Championship, breederscup.com.
