“NTRA ROAD TO THE WORLD THOROUGHBRED CHAMPIONSHIPS” TO FEATURE JOCKEY CLUB GOLD CUP FROM BELMONT PARK ON TVG/FOX SPORTS NET ON SATURDAY
Featuring live presentations of the Grade I, $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup and the Grade I, $750,000 Turf Classic Invitational, and same-day coverage of the Grade I, $750,000 Flower Bowl Invitational, all from New York’s Belmont Park, this Saturday’s "NTRA Road to the World Thoroughbred Championships" will air on the Television Games Network and several Fox Sports Net affiliates, including Fox Sports Net 2, MSG Network, Fox Sports South and the Sunshine Network from 5:00-6:00 p.m. ET.
A 1¼-mile race for horses 3-and-up, The Jockey Club Gold Cup is part of the Breeders’ Cup Classic Division-Powered by Dodge. Headlining the race will be multiple Grade I winner Mineshaft, coming off a win in the Grade I Woodward Stakes. Tied for first in the Dodge Classic Division World Thoroughbred Rankings, Mineshaft will be challenged by Dubai World Cup winner Moon Ballad (IRE) and possibly last year’s race winner, Evening Attire.
Run at 1½-miles on the grass, the Turf Classic Invitational, part of the John Deere Turf Division, features Sulamani (IRE), the declared winner of last month’s Arlington Million, and Lunar Sovereign, who won the Man ‘O War Stakes. Also expected are Deeliteful Irving, Polish Summer (GB), Sabiango (GER) and Slew Valley.
The 1¼-mile Flower Bowl, a turf race for fillies and mares that is part of the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf Division, will feature Heat Haze, coming off a win in last month’s Beverly D. Stakes, Riskaverse, Dimitrova, Snow Dance and Walzerkoenigin.
The NTRA is a broad-based coalition of horseracing interests, including the American Quarter Horse Association, charged with increasing popularity of horseracing and improving economic conditions for industry participants. The NTRA and Breeders’ Cup Limited also administer the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, Thoroughbred racing’s year-end Championships consisting of eight races and $14 million in purses and awards and the Breeders’ Cup Stakes Program.
