BREEDERS’ CUP TO PREVIEW 80 KEY 2002 RACES AT NTRA.COM
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) and Breeders’ Cup Limited announced today that 80 key prep races leading up to the Oct. 26 Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships will be made available for free download later this year at ntra.com. Content will include ten major races within each World Thoroughbred Championships division, selected from racetracks all around the world. This year’s Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships will take place on October 26 at Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, Ill.
The online content will feature full video and audio of all 80 races, with official Equibase charts available. Each race is offered in downloadable Windows Media format, with an average file size of two megabytes. Download time per race should be about three to five minutes for those with a 56K connection; less than one minute for those utilizing a DSL/T1 connection. Races will be selected based on their perceived relevance to this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, with new preps being added through Oct. 12. All downloads will be free of charge, but users must first sign up to the NTRA’s E-Club for access to the online Preview site. Launch of the site is scheduled for Oct. 5.
"This free service allows fans to see the world’s leading prep races on ‘The Road to the World Thoroughbred Championships,’" said Ken Kirchner, senior vice president of product development for the NTRA. “We want to heighten the interest of casual fans and allow them, at no cost, to play the Championship races with every bit as much insight as the heavy hitters. This will drive handle and make for even more lucrative parimutuel pools on October 26.”
The NTRA is a broad-based coalition of horseracing interests, including the American Quarter Horse Association, charged with increasing popularity of horseracing and improving economic conditions for industry participants. The NTRA and Breeders’ Cup Limited also conduct the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, Thoroughbred racing’s year-end Championships consisting of eight races and $13 million in purses and awards, the Breeders’ Cup Stakes Program and the Great State Challenge. The NTRA has offices in Lexington, Ky., and New York City. NTRA press releases appear on the NTRA Web site, ntra.com.
