LOS ALAMITOS TO CONTRIBUTE $20,000 TO NTRA CHARITIES - NEW YORK HEROES FUND
LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA... Los Alamitos Race Course, a Southern California-based Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racetrack, has announced it will donate all proceeds from admissions today and tomorrow to the NTRA Charities - New York Heroes Fund. The contribution is expected to total $20,000.
The New York Heroes Fund, announced earlier today by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Breeders' Cup Limited and the New York Racing Association, was established to assist the children and spouses of the slain firefighters, police officers, emergency workers and victims who perished in the terrorist attacks against the United States that took place in New York and Washington, D.C., on September 11.
"The Los Alamitos family and I are shocked and are grieving with the rest of the nation," said Edward C. Allred, chairman of Los Alamitos. "We wanted to do our small part to help ease the suffering of the families of the courageous people who were slain."
"We are deeply grateful to Los Alamitos for so quickly taking the initiative and contributing to this relief effort," said Keith Chamblin, NTRA senior vice president - marketing and industry relations. "We hope that other NTRA member organizations will follow their lead and join the NTRA, Breeders' Cup and the New York Racing Association in honoring the victims and aiding their families."
Los Alamitos joins a growing list of tracks and horsemen's associations raising funds for the victims' families. Others include Churchill Downs Incorporated (Churchill Downs, Hollywood Park, Arlington Park, Calder Race Course, Ellis Park and Hoosier Park), Keeneland, Turfway Park, Lone Star Park and Prairie Meadows as well as the American Quarter Horse Association.
