MAYOR GIULIANI TO DELIVER REPORT AT ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE IN SARATOGA

Giuliani Partners, led by Chairman and CEO Rudolph W. Giuliani, will present a report on the integrity of electronic wagering in the racing industry on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003 at The Jockey Club's 51st annual Round Table Conference on Matters Pertaining to Racing in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., it was announced today by Ogden Mills Phipps, the chairman of The Jockey Club.

Giuliani Partners and Ernst & Young were retained last fall by the Wagering Integrity Alliance, which was formed by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) to manage and oversee the racing industry's review of its electronic wagering systems in the wake of the Breeders' Cup Pick Six fraud on Oct. 26, 2002.

"The Pick Six wagering fraud was obviously a dark chapter in the history of our sport," Phipps said. "Many factions of the industry have worked closely over the past eight months to rectify the security breaches that led to the commission of this crime. There is still more work to be done and, at the same time, an opportunity to upgrade the industry's wagering systems. We are looking forward to hearing the Giuliani Partners' report."

Giuliani Partners, a New York City-based management consulting firm staffed by several of the Mayor's top advisers, has worked closely with the Wagering Integrity Alliance since November. Giuliani Partners works with major corporations to enhance and secure their knowledge, financial and physical assets, their people and their brand.

With Mr. Giuliani as chairman and CEO, the firm draws upon its experiences and expertise in innovative financial management, crisis management, business continuity, emergency preparedness and leadership.

"I am encouraged by the proactive approach the industry and the NTRA is taking to ensure that wagering in the thoroughbred racing industry is state of the art and secure," Mayor Giuliani said. "Under the direction of the NTRA, the industry has spent months reviewing all aspects of electronic wagering in America. The commitment to develop concrete safeguards will instill confidence that wagers are handled in a secure manner."

The Round Table Conference returns to its former location, the Gideon Putnam Hotel & Conference Center in Saratoga Spa State Park, this year.

The remainder of the program for the Round Table Conference, much of it also focusing on integrity and security issues, will be announced at a later date.

The Jockey Club Round Table Conference on Matters Pertaining to Racing was first held on July 1, 1953, in The Jockey Club office in New York City. The following year, it was moved to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. where it has been held every August since.
