NEW WEB SITE WILL PROVIDE UPDATES ON EQUINE RESEARCH PROJECTS
EquineResearch.net, a new web site detailing current equine research funded by four major organizations, is now available to the public and scientific community.
EquineResearch.net is a cooperative effort of Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, the American Quarter Horse Association Foundation, the Morris Animal Foundation, and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. A combined total of 76 projects is presently listed and described in layman's language at the web site. Each organization will update its section from time to time.
"This joint effort grew out of our four organizations having annual meetings together," said Edward L. Bowen, president of Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. "We came to the realization that we could serve both the horse owner and the scientist by creating a quick, convenient way of letting them know what we all are doing in horse related research. We will continue to house our archival database of some 1,500 past projects on our individual Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation web site, but for current matters we will use EquineResearch.net."
The projects on EquineResearch.net include dates which are provided to alert horse owners as to anticipated completion. The current and recent research runs the gamut of important problems affecting the horse, such as laminitis, colic, infectious diseases, athletic soundness, and reproductive issues, and illustrates the cutting edge technology which equine specialists are applying to their research.
Web users can easily access projects via searches utilizing key words, specific universities, specific funding organizations, or individuals heading research teams.
Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation funds research throughout North America devoted solely to furthering the health, safety and soundness of horses. The Foundation this year will fund 22 projects for a total of nearly $800,000 and in the last two decades has provided more than two dozen universities with nearly $9 million to underwrite 179 specific projects. The Foundation is funded by private contributions and membership fees, and membership is open to any interested party.
Contributions in support of the Foundation may be addressed to: Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, Inc., 821 Corporate Drive, Lexington, KY 40503-2794. Additional information about the Foundation is available on the Internet at http://home.jockeyclub.com/grayson.html.
