WEANLING SALES CONSIGNORS REMINDED TO COMPLETE REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

The Jockey Club reminds consignors of weanlings to the upcoming Fall sales to complete each weanling's registration application and DNA kit as soon as possible to avoid delays in payments from the sales companies due to incomplete paperwork or missing parentage verification requirements.

"With the switch to DNA typing, it is especially important that consignors use and mail their DNA hair kits to the laboratory and get their applications into us as early as possible," said Jockey Club vice president, registration services, Matt Iuliano. "This will help eliminate potential delays that could impact the sale of their weanlings.

"Horsemen having difficulty obtaining hair roots when pulling the mane hair of young foals may have more luck pulling tail hair, although we ask, as always, that they use common sense and good horsemanship when doing so."

Consignors are also encouraged to double check the DNA status of the sire and dam of each of their weanlings, as their DNA types must be on file with The Jockey Club before the foal can be parentage verified and registered.

"While most breeders have responded favorably to our request that they DNA type their stallions and mares as soon as possible, unfortunately a small minority has not," added Iuliano.

Applications can be completed and submitted via the Internet using Jockey Club InteractiveTM. Owners and breeders can sign up for the service, available at no charge, through the Interactive Registry icon on The Jockey Club home page, located at http://home.jockeyclub.com.

Otherwise, completed applications should be mailed to The Jockey Club, 821 Corporate Drive, Lexington, KY 40503-2794.
