IRB NOTES

Illinois Racing Board

The following actions were taken at the March 11 Illinois Racing Board meeting:

The racing officials for Fairmount Park were approved.
The racing officials for Arlington Park were approved.
The racing officials for Suburban Downs (Hawthorne harness) were approved.
The 2003 Fairmount Park stakes schedule was approved.
An amendment to the 2003 Hawthorne Race Course stakes schedule was approved (increase the purse for the Indian Maid Breeders' Cup Handicap from $100,000 to $150,000).

John Johnston, President of Balmoral Park and Tony Morgan, President of the Illinois Harness Horsemen's Association announced that an agreement had been reached, ending the 10 week harness strike. The abbreviated live racing schedule, for the next two weeks, is Balmoral racing on Saturday, March 15, Maywood racing on Friday, March 21 and Balmoral racing on Saturday, March 22. Starting Wednesday, March 26, Maywood and Balmoral will resume their normal seven night per week schedule.
