VALIANT ANNA TAKES MISS CREEKER AT HAWTHORNE
STICKNEY, IL -- Frank C. Calabrese's Valiant Anna scored a popular two-length victory in Saturday's running of the Miss Creeker Stakes. The Miss Creeker was the third win in a row for the talented daughter of Valiant Nature. It was also her first venture into the stakes ranks.
Content to track the early leaders through fractions of 23.40, 47.90, and 1:11.91, rider Carlos Montalvo swung her to the outside, grabbed the lead outside the sixteenth pole, and drew off to win by two. Begin The Beguine and Spiritual Drift closed well to finish second and third, respectively. A nose separated them at the wire.
Carlos Montalvo, rider of Valiant Anna, was quite pleased with the effort. "She's a very competitive filly. She's really nice. She has a lot of class. She showed a good burst of speed there at the end but she could also have been a lot closer to the lead. She's been running with much better horses."
Jockey Uriel Lopez, second aboard Begin the Beguine was also happy, "I'm having a beautiful day (at this point two wins and three seconds). This is a very nice filly. Charlie (trainer Charlie Livesay) is doing a terrific job with her. What else can I ask for? Charlie is a great trainer, a great turf trainer. He's a good horseman and he has good stock. I would love to keep riding for him."
Carlos Silva, who was nosed out for second aboard Spiritual Drift gave no excuses, "My filly ran her race. We were a bit further back early than I would have liked to be but she moved when I called on here. We just ran into a tougher filly today."
Valiant Anna paid $7.40, $4.60, and $3.20. Begin the Beguine paid $9.80 and $5.60. Spiritual Drift brought back $3.20.
The $2 4-11 Exacta paid $126.80. The $2 4-11-7 Trifecta paid $482.80. The $4-11-7-8 Superfecta brought back $1,192.60.
