| Hawthorne Racecourse (10/8/03) Contact: Jim Miller Jockey Murphy Breaks Leg in Spill at Hawthorne STICKNEY, IL -- Following a spill in Hawthorne's ninth race on Wednesday, jockey Glen Murphy was taken to Loyola Medical Center for treatment of a broken right leg. In the race, Murphy's mount, Let's Tour, was leading mid-stretch when the horse shied away from the whip and ducked in quickly. Unable to stay aboard, Murphy fell to the turf as Let's Tour fell over him. Murphy remained alert and conscious throughout and was transported by Hawthorne medical staff to Loyola. Hawthorne medical staff reported a broken tibia and fibula in his right leg and medical staff at Loyola were examining him for any more possible injuries. Let's Tour jumped up quickly and was not injured in the fall. ### |
