The 1 1/8 miles race for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and upward drew a field of seven with Bare Necessities assigned the highweight of 122 lbs. and installed as the even money favorite. Hawthorne has been good to trainer Wally Dollase as his last three races at Hawthorne have been graded stakes events. He won the Grade 2, $500,000 Illinois Derby in 2003 with Ten Most Wanted before winning this race with Bare Necessities last year and Ten Most Wanted just returned to win the Grade 3, $250,000 National Jockey Club Handicap last Saturday. In 2004, Bare Necessities has been sharp as she's found the board in each of her three starts. She opened 2004 with an impressive win in the Paseana Handicap at Santa Anita on January 16. Following that start, she faced Grade 1 company as she was beaten only a head in Santa Maria Handicap on February 16. She returned a month after that start to run third to Adoration on March 14. Owned by Iron County Farms, Inc. and ridden by Rene Douglas, Bare Necessities is the even money morning line favorite. Local favorite Julie's Prize is the second choice in the Sixty Sails as she looks to go three for three on the year. After winning a $100,000 optional claiming event on March 21, she returned to post an impressive victory in the state-bred Peach Of It Handicap on April 10, winning by four lengths while carrying 126 lbs. A winner of six races from her eight starts over the track, Julie's Prize returns with regular rider Larry Sterling Jr. in the saddle. Owned by Richard Otto Stables and trained by Anthony Mitchell, Julie's Prize carries 114 lbs. and is 9-2 in the morning line.
