ILLINOIS DERBY UPDATE

Late nominations for the Grade 2 Illinois Derby closed on Wednesday, March 19. Thirteen new nominations were received. They include (in alphabetical order):

STERLING STERLING

Jockey Larry Sterling Jr. went on a tear Friday, winning with four of his seven mounts, including three straight for trainer Michael Reavis. They took the second with Rainy Day Rules ($5.20), the third with Takenbythesky ($5.40), and the fourth with Persuasive Lady ($5.20). Sterling later added another win in the eighth with My Beau Mister Joe ($16.80) for trainer Jimmy Wiser. He finished third with two of his remaining three mounts.

CHITOWN CHALLENGE UPDATE

At the end of the day on Friday, only 74 remained in the online challenge. There were five, onsite, left alive. This is when things start getting tough.
