Bourque Approaches 3,000, Reavis & Sterling Streaking, ChiTown Update
Jockey Bourque not far from 3,000
Veteran rider Curt Bourque is quickly approaching his 3,000th career victory as he stands 12 wins away, heading into Friday's card.
Bourque, 36, began riding in 1984 at Evangeline Downs and won his first race later that year at Jefferson Downs. Bourque had ridden the Chicago circuit early in the 1990s before shifting his tack to Louisiana. He has returned to Chicago this year and currently is third in the Hawthorne rider standings with 14 wins from 54 mounts.
Bourque plans to spend the summer in Chicago, riding at Arlington following the Hawthorne meet.
A Winner A Day for Reavis and Sterling
Through 14 racing days, only two men can say they've had a winner each racing day.
Trainer Mike Reavis is carrying this streak through the first 14 days as he leads the trainer standings with 19 wins from 46 starters. Even more amazing is that 37 of the 46 starters for Reavis have hit the board. The current leading trainer has six horses entered on today's card, and is the morning-line choice in two of the six races.
Jockey Larry Sterling Jr. has ridden home a winner each day for Reavis as he looks to extend his streak as well. Sterling leads all riders with 21 wins from 67 mounts and has hit the board in 46 of his 67 rides. He rides five of six starters for Reavis today and seven for the card.
The on-line challenge had a couple of close calls on Tuesday, but very few were eliminated. Entering Friday, 83 contestants still remain to compete for the top prize of $5,000.
On-site, only one contestant was eliminated on Tuesday, leaving seven players to battle it out for the 125,000 Club Hawthorne points.
