HAWTHORNE NOTES
| Hawthorne Racecourse daily notes (12/20/02) Contact: Jim Miller RONNIE GABRIEL BACK IN THE IRONS Ronnie Gabriel, a popular local jockey for many years, has returned to riding after a 12-year hiatus. The 52-year-old Gabriel finished fourth in Friday's eighth race aboard Moonlight Spy, his first mount back. "I was surprisingly calm," Gabriel said after the race. "It felt really good. It all seemed so clear." Gabriel spent much of the last 12 years training horses. He also did a stint as the Clerk of Scales. "I'm going for it," Gabriel continued. "I'm back to riding. I purposely came back at this time of the year so I could get some mounts. With so many of the regular jockeys on the circuit taking off, I knew there would be some openings. I've been galloping horses for a couple of months. I'm getting my legs back. This is going to be fun." Here's hoping he's successful. CADMAN WITH ANOTHER GOOD DAY Jockey Zoe Cadman won three more on Friday after taking two on Thursday's card. She won the first with Blackington ($31.60), the third with Expedite It ($5.20), and Ugottaseethisplace ($10.20) in the seventh. SILVA WINS TWO Jockey Carlos Silva won a pair on Friday. He took the fifth with Browns Velvet ($8.20) and the ninth with Friendly Cop ($14.00). ### |
