Racing Action Returns to Hawthorne
We would like to welcome everyone back to Hawthorne Race Course as we open our fall racing season. Many things can be expected this fall at Hawthorne, including full fields, extended turf racing, and several promotions.
With almost a week off from racing here in Chicago, our local stables are geared up for our two-month meet. Hawthorne will once again offer the fullest fields in Illinois.
Also boosting our field size and wagering opportunities will be the utilization of our turf course. We open this weekend with the Grade 3, $150,000 Guaranteed Robert F. Carey Memorial on the grass on Saturday, and plan to race on the turf as long as Mother Nature allows.
In addition to our many wagering opportunities, there will also be chances to make extra money every weekend through our handicapping contests. M. Scott McMannis will again be coordinating the contests, which will take place throughout our meet. Information will be available every day on our program cover with information concerning each contest.
Hawthorne, along with Mancari Chrysler-Jeep, will be giving away another PT Cruiser this fall as well. Qualifying for the giveaway is free. We will draw names every weekend this fall for finalists and give away the PT Cruiser on our final weekend of the meet.
Next Saturday, November 9, Hawthorne will feature the always-popular Phil Georgeff Illinois Festival of Racing. Six races, carrying purses of $100,000, will showcase the best of the Illinois-bred runners. This is traditionally one of our most popular days. For those of you who can't stick around for all of the races, Hawthorne action will return nightly at 10:00PM on CLTV with "Thoroughbred Today" from Hawthorne.
Our website is also a great resource for fans and horsemen. We will once again provide live audio and video of our races along with the addition of overnights and stakes nominations on our site, www.hawthorneracecourse.com.
