Hawthorne Executive Passes, Arrangements Announced STICKNEY, IL -- Hawthorne Assistant to the President, Robert F. Carey, Jr. passed away Saturday night after a long battle from injuries which occurred in a fall last November. Carey, 67, passed at his home in Riverside, IL. He is survived by his wife Peg, nine children, and 22 grandchildren. "Bob" Carey handled all matters around the track with a hands-on approach as his primary duties were to oversee operations of the backstretch and on the track itself. Uncle Bob, as he was affectionately known by many Hawthorne employees, dealt with the horsemen on a daily basis and was also responsible for revamping Hawthorne's turf course in 1995. Arlington Park Chairman Richard L. Duchossois said, "Everyone on the staff at Arlington Park and all of us involved in Illinois racing are saddened by the passing of our colleague Bob Carey. His dedication and hard work on behalf of our industry will be missed by everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Carey family." The wake will take place on Monday and Tuesday from 3:00 - 9:00 pm at Ivins Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St., in Riverside, IL. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 6 Herrick Road, in Riverside. -30- |
