Also on tap is the Grade 1 Preakness simulcast from Pimlico. War Emblem, the Kentucky Derby victor who campaigned in Illinois for much of his career, goes for the second leg of the Triple Crown. MEIER TRIUMPHANT IN RETURN Randy Meier had a successful Hawthorne debut. He rode five (was scheduled for six but one scratched) and found himself in the winner's circle twice. He took the fourth with Too Many Choices ($3.80) and the sixth with Extended View ($4.00). CAMPBELL TAKES THREE Jockey Jesse Campbell scored with three on Friday. He won the third with Barkenlor Cat ($10.40); the eighth with Hellcat Pilot ($6.60); and the ninth with Come On Spider ($54.80). TWO-YEAR-OLDS ON TRACK Starting Sunday, in the first race, Hawthorne will begin racing for 2-year-olds. Seven 2-year-old fillies will contest the first race. ### |
