DELMONICO CAT UP IN TIME TO WIN FLAWLESSLY STAKES AT ARLINGTON ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sept. 20, 2003) -- Mrs. & Martin J. Wygod's Delmonico Cat overtook longshot pacesetter You Glitter Girl in the final strides to earn a neck victory in the $48,600 Flawlessly Stakes at Arlington. Trained by Hall of Fame conditioner Bill Mott, the 4-year-old Storm Cat filly was ridden by Arlington's leading jockey Rene Douglas. She covered the mile over a firm turf course in 1:37.48. The Flawlessly was her second overnight stakes victory of the Arlington meet. On July 4 she captured the $45,000 Possibly Perfect Stakes. In her last trip to the post, she finished second to Delicatessa in the $75,000 Estrapade Handicap on Aug. 15. Delmonico Cat earned $29,160 for the win, her third in seven trips to the post this season and her fifth in 11 starts overall, to elevate her bankroll to $183,804. Sent off as the even money favorite, she paid $4.20, $3 and $2.60. You Glitter Girl, dispatched at odds of more than 15-1, held on for the place after setting easy fractions of 24.38 seconds, 49.15 seconds, 1:13.17 and 1:25.64. She returned $12.20 and $6.80. It was a half a length back to third-place finisher Naturally Wild, who paid $4. Delicatessa, Storm to Glory, Salty Farma, I Can Fan Fan, Beret, Lead Story, Dancing With Me and Fly Borboleta completed the order of finish.
