Last year, he won the Grade III Robert F. Carey Memorial Handicap at Hawthorne off a two-month break. Sunday at Arlington Park, the Mickey Goldfine-trained son of Irish River returned from a 4½-month rest to annex the $46,950 Bowl Game Stakes. Ray Sibille rode the 7-year-old horse who covered the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:42.09 "Mickey did a fantastic job with him," Sibille said. "Everything fell into place. The conditions were perfect. He's really coming around and looks really good for the future." Galic Boy was never far back while racing along the rail. He was angled out for the stretch run, rallied to the front approaching the eighth pole and drew off to prevail by a length over 13-10 favorite Just Like Jimmy. It was another 1¼ lengths back to third-place finisher Promise of War. Private Bound, Associate and Mister Volare completed the order of finish. The win was the first for Galic Boy since he captured the Carey last year and his 11th in 34 starts overall. The $28,170 winner's share elevated his career bankroll past the $400,000 mark to $411,609. Galic Boy, second choice at odds of 7-5, paid $4.80, $2.80 and $2.20. Just Like Jimmy paid $2.60 and $2.10. Promise of War paid $2.20. - END - |
