KRISTUFEK, GUTFREUND TO CONDUCT DERBY FUTURES SEMINAR AT TRACKSIDE ARLINGTON PARK ON SATURDAY, MARCH 13
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (March 4, 2004) -- Daily Herald handicapper Joe Kristufek and Dave "The Thoroughbred Maven" Gutfreund will conduct a free Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks Future Wager seminar at Trackside Arlington Park on Saturday, March 13.
The Seminar will start at 11:30 a.m. Central time and a limited number of free Daily Racing Form futures editions will be given to new or existing members of the Twin Spires Club in attendance. Membership in the Twin Spires Club is free. Daily Racing Form will also provide a limited number of other DRF merchandise to be given away at the Seminar.
In addition to the explaining the basics of the Future Wager, Kristufek and Gutfreund will highlight some of the top 3-year-olds featured in Pool 2 and take a look at the major 3-year-old stakes races scheduled for that weekend: the Grade I Florida Derby and Grade III Swale Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, and the Grade II San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park and the Grade III Tampa Bay Derby on Sunday.
The duo, who also serve as host and analyst on Fox Sports Net's "Horsin' Around TV", which returns for its second season on March 20, will also handicap the day's card from Hawthorne Race Course during the one-hour Seminar.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a pari-mutuel wager offered by Churchill Downs that allows racing fans to wager early on prospective entrants in Kentucky Derby 130, which will be run on May 1, 2004. The minimum wager is $2 and the Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a win wager only. All Kentucky Derby Future wagers will be merged through the Kentucky hub located at Churchill Downs.
The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager is conducted similarly on prospective entrants for the 130th edition of the Kentucky Oaks, which will be run on April 30, 2004.
Arlington Park, the Chicago area's premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill., will run a 96-day meet in 2004 from Friday, May 14 through Sunday, Sept. 19. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates eight off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities: Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Chicago, Trackside McHenry, Trackside Rockford, Trackside South Beloit, Trackside Waukegan and Longshots featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin.
