ARLINGTON FANS TO SEE EXPANDED COVERAGE OF STEWARDS' REVIEWS PUBLIC TO SEE ALL CAMERA ANGLES ALONG WITH JUDGES
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (August 21, 2003) -- Arlington Park announced Thursday that all stewards' review replays will be shown simultaneously on both Arlington's in-house television and live simulcast feed to all off-track wagering locations during all inquiries and objections beginning today. In addition, track announcer John G. Dooley will provide an explanation of the stewards' decisions with a video replay following every inquiry or objection.
Out of respect to the horses and jockeys, the stewards will use their discretion on using replays for situations involving equine or human injuries.
"Just as NFL fans at home watch all of the replays from every angle on television along with the referee on the field, all of our fans at the track and all off-track betting locations will watch the same replays simultaneously with our stewards while they are reviewing them," said Arlington Park President Cliff Goodrich. "All decisions made by the stewards will be explained with a supporting video replay by our track announcer John Dooley.
"The cooperation of the stewards, who support this change, will allow the wagering public to see exactly what they are viewing, and along with an explanation of the their decision, will be helpful to the fans in understanding the results of the inquiry," added Goodrich.
"We are very happy with the expanded coverage that will be available to the public of the video replays that we utilize to make our decisions because it puts us on par with the other major professional sports," said Eddie Arroyo, senior state steward for the Illinois Racing Board.
Currently, selected replays are aired on Arlington's broadcast while the complete stewards' replays are available on one of the in-house channels, but with this change, all of the stewards' replays from all camera angles will be part of the live feed from Arlington Park.
