Contact: David Zenner MORNING LINE FAVORITE TATES CREEK OUT OF BEVERLY D.; BIS REPETITAS SCRATCHED FROM SECRETARIAT STAKES ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (August 14, 2003) -- Arlington Park racing officials confirmed Thursday morning that Juddmonte Farms Inc.'s Tates Creek, the 5-2 morning line favorite for Saturday's $700,000 Grade I Beverly D. Stakes, and Edmund A. Gann's Bis Repetitas, a candidate for Saturday's $400,000 Grade I Secretariat Stakes, have been scratched from their respective engagements. Difficulty in securing travel for the horses from their Southern California homebase to Chicago was the reason cited by Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel for the scratches. Juddmonte Farms Inc.'s Heat Haze, also trained by Frankel but based at Saratoga, is expected to arrive from New York Thursday in advance of her projected start in the Beverly D. Arlington Park -- host to the record-breaking 2002 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships and the Chicago area's premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. -- runs a 104-day meet in 2003 through Saturday, Sept. 27. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates seven off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities: Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Rockford, Trackside McHenry, Trackside Waukegan and Longshots featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin. Information on Arlington Park can be found online at www.arlingtonpark.com. - END - |
