6th Annual Derby Brunch at Arlington Park Sponsored by Comcast & ComEd
Plans are underway for the 6th Annual Derby event at beautiful Arlington Park. It's a sure bet you'll enjoy this savory brunch on Saturday, May 3, from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. The afternoon will feature mint juleps, various simulcast races, a fabulous raffle table, live entertainment and a chance to win on the Kentucky Derby. The Derby committee has selected the Special Leisure Services Foundation, Special Olympics, District 18 and High School District 214 - Community Education Foundation as the recipients of the proceeds. Tickets are $100/person and the event is semiformal.
The first Annual Derby event held at Arlington Park in 1996, was coordinated by Arlington Heights Village President Arlene Mulder and Mayors Rita Mullins and Tom Menzel of Palatine and Rolling Meadows, respectively. The goal was to benefit charities in each of their towns, and serve as a kick-off to the Thoroughbred racing season at Arlington Park. Traditionally, each mayor chooses a charity from his or her town, but for the past several years all three have agreed on Special Olympics since the program serves athletes from 16 communities. However, this year they have agreed to return to tradition and share the proceeds with both Special Olympics and High School District 214's Community Education Foundation which services 6 Northwest Suburban Municipalities.
The 6th Annual Derby Brunch, featuring the 129th running of the Kentucky Derby, is proud to boast the continued sponsorship of Comcast and ComEd. Kris Stabler, V.P. of Community Relations for Arlington Park stated, "The ongoing commitment of our sponsors, Comcast and ComEd, allow Arlington Park Racetrack to continue to host this worthwhile event, which in turn helps such worthwhile organizations, such as Special Olympics and 214's Community Education Foundation."
A highlight of the event is the silent auction with sports and entertainment items and the charming and delightful Parade of Hats. Items include tickets to sporting events; autographed sports equipment and clothing; and gift certificates to local restaurants, theaters, hotels and golf courses.
