HORSES ARRIVE AT ARLINGTON MONDAY; TRAINING BEGINS WEDNESDAY
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (April 18, 2003) -- The horses return to Arlington Park Monday, April 21, when the track opens its barn area at 8:00 a.m. sharp. Several Arkansas-based outfits are expected to arrive on Monday, the first day the track's barn area is available for stabling.
Trainers Jerry Calvin, Ron Moquett and Lon Wiggins are among those scheduled to arrive Monday. A division of 2-year-olds owned by Godolphin Racing Inc. and trained by Eoin Harty is slated to arrive the following day, as is Steve Hobby, who is shipping in from Oaklawn Park.
Arlington can house 2,140 horses in its stable area that consists of 35 barns. Training on Arlington's 1 1/8-mile main track will begin Wednesday morning at 5:30 a.m. Training hours on the main track will be 5:30-9:30 a.m. (with no maintenance break) through Sunday, April 27. Regular training hours of 5:30-10:15 a.m. (with maintenance breaks at 7 and 8:30 a.m.) will commence Monday, April 28.
Arlington Park -- host to the record-breaking 2002 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships and the Chicago area's premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. -- will run a 104-day meet in 2003 from Friday, May 9, through Saturday, Sept. 27.
