RACING FORM HANDICAPPER WATCHMAKER TO CONDUCT DERBY FUTURES SEMINARS AT SELECTED ILLINOIS TRACKSIDE LOCATIONS FEBRUARY 15-16
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Feb. 10, 2003) -- Daily Racing Form national handicapper and "Derby Watch" expert Mike Watchmaker will conduct free Kentucky Derby Future Wager seminars at Chicago area Trackside locations on Feb. 15 and 16.
Watchmaker, who will be joined by Arlington Park communications manager Dave Zenner, will be at Trackside Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 15 and at Trackside Arlington Park on Sunday, Feb. 16. Seminars both days will start at 11 a.m. Central time and the first 100 attendees at each seminar will receive a free Daily Racing Form futures edition. Also, five $20 betting vouchers will be given away at the end of each seminar.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a pari-mutuel wager offered by Churchill Downs that allows racing fans to wager early on prospective entrants in Kentucky Derby 129, which will be run on May 3, 2003. The minimum wager is $2 and the Kentucky Derby Future Wagers is a win wager only. All Kentucky Derby Future wagers will be merged through the Kentucky hub located at Churchill Downs.
In addition to the explaining the basics of the Future Wager, Watchmaker and Zenner will highlight some of the top 3-year-olds featured in Pool 1 and handicap the major 3-year-old stakes races scheduled for that weekend: the Grade I Fountain of Youth Stakes and Grade II Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, and the Grade III Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds on Sunday.
At Sunday's seminar, the handicappers also will review video replays of Saturday's races and discuss the effect of those races on Pool 1.
Arlington Park will hold its 104-day meet in 2003 from Friday, May 9 through Saturday, Sept. 27. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates six off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities - Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Rockford, Trackside Waukegan and Longshots Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin.
