ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Oct. 22, 2002) -- All seats for the 2002 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, which are being held for the first time at Arlington Park on Saturday, Oct. 26, have been sold.
"We are pleased to announce that for the first time ever, the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships are sold out in advance," said Arlington Park President Steve Sexton. "The response since the onset of ticket sales has been tremendously positive."
"This is the most tickets sold in advance during the 19-year history of the Breeders' Cup," added D.G. Van Clief, Jr., president of Breeders' Cup Limited. "We expect more than 45,000 fans to be at Arlington Park on Saturday, Oct. 26."
More than 35,000 tickets were sold to the public for the event, and every fan with a ticket will also have a seat. Additionally, 10,000 tickets were sold through the Breeders' Cup Limited. There will be no tickets and no general admission available at the track on Saturday, Oct. 26. In addition, there will be no parking at Arlington Park without pre-purchased parking credentials. Tickets for the 2002 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Arlington Park were sold through a lottery system. More than 20,000 fans from outside of the Chicago-area are expected to attend racing's championship day.
To accommodate the large crowd, Arlington Park has constructed nearly 32,500 stadium-style temporary seats with accompanying heated pavilions that will include mutuels, concessions, merchandise sales and restrooms.
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, Bureau of Tourism is an official sponsor of the Breeders' Cup.
