ARLINGTON PARK ANNOUNCES BREEDERS' CUP PARKING AND TRAFFIC PLANS FOR SATURDAY, OCT. 26
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Oct. 12, 2002) -- Parking and traffic plans for the 2002 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships on Saturday, Oct. 26 were announced today by Arlington Park.
"We have worked extensively with community businesses plus local, county and state law enforcement, and the Illinois Department of Transportation to develop a comprehensive parking and traffic plan," explained Arlington Park President Steve Sexton. "Our goal is to facilitate the most convenient and efficient movement of our visitors and their vehicles without causing a major disruption to the neighboring communities.
"The ingress to and egress from our facility creates a first and lasting impression of the Arlington experience," added Sexton. "It is very important in our planning."
Admittance of vehicles to the Arlington Park parking lots will begin at 7:30 a.m. (Central time) through the main gate on Euclid Avenue only with the proper parking credentials that were distributed with tickets to the event. Wilke Road and the Wilke Road entrance to Arlington Park will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles.
Two adjacent parking areas and four off-site parking locations, within six miles of Arlington Park, will be utilized on Breeders' Cup day. Off-site parking areas, from which shuttle service will be provided to and from the track, coincide with seating locations so that shuttles will pick up and drop off at the appropriate admission entrance at Arlington Park. If pre-purchased, parking credentials for the off-site locations were included in the packet with tickets to the event.
On Breeders' Cup day, Arlington's admission gates will open at 8 a.m. with the first race at 11:05 a.m. The Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships will begin with the third race at 12:20 p.m. and continue through race 10, the Breeders' Cup Classic at 4:35 p.m. There will be an additional 11th race at 5:15 p.m.
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, Bureau of Tourism is an official sponsor of the Breeders' Cup.
Arlington Park, host of the 2002 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships on Oct. 26 and the Chicago area's premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill., will complete its 107-day meet in 2002 on Sunday, Oct. 27. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates five off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities -- Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Rockford and Trackside Waukegan.
