Contact: Dan Leary INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF RACING DAY TOTAL HANDLE SETS ALL-TIME RECORD 27,431 WATCH BEAT HOLLOW WIN 20th RUNNING OF ARLINGTON MILLION ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Aug. 17, 2002) -- The $15,851,625 wagered on Arlington Park's 12-race card on International Festival of Racing Saturday was the highest in the history of the track and in the State of Illinois on Illinois races. The previous highest total handle was $14,519,027 established on Arlington Million Day last year. Saturday's attendance of 27,431 was 5,255 better than the 2001 total of 22,176 and was the largest Arlington Million Day crowd since 1997 when 29,435 saw Gary Stevens guide Marlin to the winner's circle. This year's on track handle of $2,982,051 was slightly lower than last year's total of $3,007,976. Arlington Park, the Chicago area's premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill., will run a 107-day meet in 2002 from Wednesday, June 5 to Sunday, Oct. 27. Arlington Park, which merged with Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN) in September 2000, also operates five off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities -- "Trackside" Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Quad City Downs (East Moline), Chicago, Rockford and Waukegan.
