(Aug. 8, 2002) -- Rosalio Canteria was killed in an automobile accident in a residential area on the Arlington Park backstretch Wednesday night. The 38-year-old groom for trainer Donna Dupuy was transported by ambulance to Northwest Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. "This was a very unfortunate tragedy that saddens everyone at Arlington Park," said Arlington Park President Steve Sexton. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Canteria family and friends today. "The backstretch personnel are dedicated and hard-working people in jobs that are integral to the workings of a racetrack and he will be missed," added Sexton. Both Arlington Park and the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association will make a contribution to cover the family's travel to and funeral expenses in Canteria's native Mexico. Canteria is survived by his wife Maria and their five children. - END - |
