RENE DOUGLAS WINS FIRST FIVE ON ARLINGTON SATURDAY CARD
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (July 20, 2002) -- Rene Douglas, Arlington's leading jockey, won the first five races on Arlington Park's 10-race card Saturday, July 20.
Douglas' streak actually began with the final race on the Friday program when the 35-year-old reinsman guided Divine Right ($8.60) to victory, his second on that card and meet leading 52nd win entering Saturday's races.
The Panamanian-born rider then rattled off scores in the first five races Saturday, taking the first race aboard Yodog ($4.20), the second with Switch ($5.80), the third astride Bootleg and Susy ($8.60), the fourth on Richter's Emblem ($7.80) and the fifth with Chris' Facts ($13.80). The skein came to a close when his sixth-race mount, Vicki Vallencourt, finished last in the $63,250 Real Delight Stakes.
Douglas, who now has 57 wins at the meet, leads his closest pursuer Elvis Trujillo by 14 victories.
The five-bagger was the first at Arlington since Mark Guidry accomplished the feat on June 7, 2000. The track's all-time record is eight wins from nine mounts on a single program, recorded by Pat Day on September 13, 1989.
