ARLINGTON NAMES SCHLOESSMAN VP MARKETING
Arlington Heights, Ill. (April 24, 2002) -- Arlington Park President Steve Sexton announced today that Carl Schloessman will assume the role of Vice President of Marketing and Sales. "We are pleased to add Carl to our management team," said Sexton. "His depth, along with his variety of skills and experience in entertainment marketing, will be a tremendous asset in this important year at Arlington Park. The addition of Carl reinforces our commitment to marketing Thoroughbred racing in the competitive Chicago market, especially with the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships coming to our venue on Saturday, October 26."
In his new role, Schloessman will be an integral member of Arlington Park's senior management team. His responsibilities include the oversight of Arlington's Marketing, Promotions, Group Sales, Sponsorship Sales and Communications departments. Schloessman was selected after a three-month national search due to his proven record in strategic marketing, promotion and advertising development and implementation abilities.
Schloessman's impressive background includes posts as Director of Business Development for Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) where he developed marketing and corporate sponsorships for properties including the STAPLES Center, MGM Grand, LA Kings and Gaylord Entertainment Center. Prior to AEG, Carl served as Director of Marketing for Raging Waters in Los Angeles and the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim. After graduating from University of Colorado in Boulder, Schloessman was a marketing representative for the Harlem Globetrotters/Ice Capades where he was responsible for the marketing and promotions of those properties in 22 markets annually.
"I am truly excited about this opportunity," said Schloessman. "Arlington Park is considered by many in the world to be the finest Thoroughbred horse racing facility in the world. However, what many don't know, and it will be my team's job to communicate, is that Arlington is an amazing entertainment destination that offers an incredible variety of experiences -- from an elegant day at the races to a fun place to bring your family for fun and picnics. I am looking forward to this challenging, exciting and successful endeavor as we prepare for Arlington's 75th anniversary celebration and hosting the Super Bowl of racing -- the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships."
Schloessman and his wife, Tatiana, currently live in Brentwood, CA. He will begin the new position in early May.
Arlington Park, the Chicago area's premier Thoroughbred racetrack, located in Arlington Heights, Ill., will run its 105-day live racing meet June 5 to October 27, 2002. Arlington Park, which merged with Churchill Downs Incorporated in September 2000, also operates off-track betting facilities at Trackside at Arlington Park; Quad City Downs; and in Chicago, Rockford, and Waukegan, Ill.
