DUBAI WORLD CUP KICKS OFF 2002 WORLD SERIES RACING CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY Arlington Park Serves as Simulcast Host for Four Races from Nad Al Sheba Racecourse ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (March 20, 2002) -- Arlington Park, which will become the first racetrack ever to host three legs of the World Series Racing Championship in the same year during 2002, will serve as the simulcast host for the first race of that 14-race international series, the $6 million Dubai World Cup, on Saturday, March 23. The world's richest race will be one of four Group I simulcast races, with total purses of $12 million, available through Arlington Park from Dubai's Nad Al Sheba Racecourse Saturday. In addition, a tape delay of the UAE Derby will be broadcast with no wagering available. In 2002, Arlington Park will be home of three World Series Racing Championship races. The Arlington Million, the fifth leg of the series, will be run on Saturday, August 17 while the series' eleventh and twelfth races, the Breeders' Cup Turf and Breeders' Cup Classic will be contested at Arlington on Saturday, Oct. 26. On Saturday, the $2,000,00 Dubai Sheema Classic (Group I) for four-year-olds and upward at a mile and a half on the turf will kick off the card as Race 4 in the program at 9 a.m. CST (7 p.m. Dubai time). Race 5, the six-furlong $2,000,000 Dubai Golden Shaheen (Group I) for three-year-olds and up on the dirt will go to post at 10:10 a.m. CST (8:10 p.m. Dubai time). The $2,000,000 Dubai Duty Free (Group I) for four-year-olds and upward will be contested at a mile and an eighth on the dirt at 10:50 a.m. CST (8:50 p.m. Dubai time) as Race 6. The final live simulcast, Race 7, at 11:40 a.m. CST (9:40 p.m. Dubai time) will be the featured $6,000,000 Dubai World Cup for four-year-olds and up at a mile and a quarter on dirt. The mile and a quarter, $2,000,000 UAE Derby (Group II) for three-year-olds on dirt will be broadcast on a tape delayed basis without wagering between live races. The wagering menu consists of Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta betting on each of the four live races with a Pick 3 on the last three contests (Races 5,6,7) beginning with the Dubai Golden Shaheen and a Daily Double on Races 6 and 7, the Dubai Duty Free and Dubai World Cup. Wagering on the Dubai races through Arlington will be available at more than 600 locations throughout North and South America as well as in the Caribbean, including all ITW and OTB locations in Illinois. The Ontario Jockey Club will serve as host in Canada. In addition, advance wagering, beginning Friday, March 22 on the races will be offered at the majority of these outlets and all locations in Illinois, including Arlington Park's five OTB facilities --Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Rockford and Trackside Waukegan. Arlington Park, host of the 2002 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships on Oct. 26 and Chicago area's premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill., will run a 107-day meet in 2002 from Wednesday, June 5 to Sunday, Oct. 27.
