ARLINGTON PARK TO KICKOFF 75th SEASON WITH BELMONT STAKES GIVEAWAYS JUNE 5
Track to Draw Two Trips for Two to See War Emblem's Attempt at Triple Crown in New York
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 31, 2002) -- When Arlington Park kicks off its 75th Anniversary season on Wednesday, June 5, two lucky opening day fans will each walk out of the track with trips for two to New York and a chance to see War Emblem's attempt to become the 12th winner of racing's Triple Crown, and the first to do it since Affirmed in 1978.
On Opening Day, all guests 18 years of age and older will receive an official entry blank for the 2002 Belmont Stakes Sweepstakes. Completed entry forms must be deposited in specially designated boxes located throughout the facility before post time of Arlington Park's fourth race on Wednesday, June 5.
The names of the two winning contestants will be selected in a random drawing following Arlington's sixth race and announced over the track's public address system. Contestants must be present to win. Each grand prize package includes: two tickets to the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park on Saturday, June 8; airfare for two people from Chicago to New York; and hotel accommodations for two people for two nights (Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8).

Fans visiting Arlington Park on Opening Day will also be treated to a live appearance by WJMK Magic 104.3 FM personality Dick Biondi, who will be located at the foot of the track's Grand Staircase on the Apron Level. Biondi will be giving away special promotional prizes as well as doing live call-ins back to the station from noon until 3 p.m.
Those in attendance during the this 75th Anniversary season will be treated to some new and exciting features at Arlington Park including new simulcast centers located at the Starting Gate Theater, Player's Lounge, Silks Lounge that have additional, individual TV monitors at the desk carrels in each location. In addition, a fourth simulcast center with large screen TV's has been added at the west end of the clubhouse on the Apron Level.
The track's toteboard has been enhanced to be able to show wagering information for 14-horse fields.
Arlington's guests can also take advantage a remodeled, larger Gift Shop that includes an expanded line of Arlington Park merchandise.
But Opening Day on Wednesday, June 5 is just the beginning of the 75th Anniversary celebration. In 2002, Arlington Park will conduct a season-long celebration of its rich tradition that will be highlighted by Arlington Park's 75th birthday party on Sunday, Oct. 13. Throughout the 107-day race meet, promotions commemorating the rich tradition of races, horses, owners, trainers and jockeys who have competed at Arlington Park for the past 75 years will lead up to the birthday celebration in October.
Arlington Park, host of the 2002 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships on Oct. 26 and Chicago area's premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill., will run a 107-day meet in 2002 from Wednesday, June 5 to Sunday, Oct. 27.
