FAST COOKIE FAVORED IN SATURDAY'S REAL DELIGHT STAKES
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 29, 2003) -- Stonerside Stable LLC's Fast Cookie, third in the Grade III La Troienne Stakes at Churchill Downs earlier this month, has been installed as the 3-1 morning line favorite for Saturday's $75,000 Real Delight Stakes at Arlington Park. The Real Delight, which returns to the Arlington stakes program for the first time in nearly two decades, is a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies.
A daughter of Deputy Minister, Fast Cookie has yet to win an added-money event but the Bill Mott-trained filly has been competitive in graded stakes competition. In addition to her third-place finish at Churchill, she was second beaten only a nose in the Grade II Astarita Stakes at Belmont Park and third in the Grade III Valley Stream Stakes at Aqueduct during her 2-year-old campaign. In four starts this year, Fast Cookie has two victories and a third-place finish. Rene Douglas gets the mount.
Louie J. Roussel III & Ronnie Lamarque's In Secure carries a perfect two-for-two win skein into the Real Delight. The daughter of A. P. Indy wired a field of maidens at Hawthorne Race Course at first asking in April and captured the $40,000 Nervous John Stakes at the Stickney oval a month later. Trained by Roussel, In Secure will be ridden by her regular jockey, E. T. Baird.
Totier Creek Farm's Crow Jane comes into Saturday's headliner off a sixth-place finish in the La Troienne. Previously, the Jeffrey Thornbury-trained daughter of Indian Charlie won a first-level allowance race at Keeneland in April after finishing second in a similar race on the turf at New Orleans' Fair Grounds. Frank Lovato Jr. gets the call.
You Glitter Girl, who races in the colors of Coast To Coast Racing Fund LLC, looks to rebound from a seventh-place run in the $50,000 Wafare Farm Stakes at Lone Star Park. Earlier this year, the Glitterman filly won back-to-back allowance races at the Fair Grounds. She broke her maiden over this oval as a 2-year-old last August 3 and later that month ran third in the $75,000 Top Flight Stakes here. Randall Meier, who rode the Bret Calhoun pupil here last year, reunites with You Glitter Girl.
Maggi Moss' Abounding Truth and CresRan LLC's Feisty Princess each bring two-race win streaks to the Real Delight. Iowa-based Glenn Corbett has the mount aboard the former while C. H. Marquez Jr. will be in the tack on the latter.
Others in the field (with jockeys listed) are: Richard F. Rudolph's Cashmere Miss (Earlie Fires), second against Illinois-bred rivals in the $40,000 Native Pet here on May 11; William Schaffrick's Beach Plum (Chris Emigh), a Keeneland allowance race victress in April; Gary Tussey's Leaseholders Dream (Carlos Silva), who broke her maiden over this track on May 18; and Randy Hammlers' Nicole's Dream (Jorge Rivera), winner of two races at Tampa Bay Downs this winter.
The Real Delight Stakes will also serve as the final leg of a CDSN "All-Stakes" Pick 3. The wager, which will be hosted by Calder Race Course and can be bet by asking for Calder Race 11, begins with Calder's $50,000 Royal Glint Stakes at 4:25 p.m. Central time. At 4:32 p.m. Central, Churchill Downs will offer its grassy Grade III Louisville Handicap at a mile and three-eighths as the middle leg seven minutes before the Real Delight concludes the wager.
