SEE HOW SHE RUNS SEEKS NEW STREAK START IN SINGAPORE PLATE
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (August 8, 2002) -- Pin Oak Stable's See How She Runs, whose five race win streak was snapped when narrowly defeated in the $150,000 Iowa Oaks last time out, hopes to start a new skein when she goes postward as the likely favorite among seven 3-year-old fillies entered for Saturday's Grade III $100,000 Singapore Plate over a mile and an eighth at Arlington Park.
A daughter of Maria's Mon, See How She Runs won the first five races in her career including scores in the Grade II Fantasy at Oaklawn Park and the Grade I Selene Stakes at Woodbine near Toronto. Her only loss came last time out when she came up a head short to Lost At Sea at Prairie Meadows. Don Pettinger, who has been aboard See How She Runs in every one of her starts, has a return call aboard the Donnie K. Von Hemel-trained filly.
Lost At Sea, the only horse to defeat See How She Runs, looks to make it two straight stakes victories after pulling the upset in Iowa at odds of 22-1. Earlier this year, the daughter of Lost Soldier captured the $55,000 San Jose Stakes at Bay Meadows. In between, she was third in the $55,000 Bay Meadows Oaks at that Northern California oval and fourth in Arlington's $45,000 Flawlessly Stakes. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Lost At Sea will be ridden by Arlington's leading jockey, Rene Douglas.
Slated to face the top duo are: Mike Rutheford's Belvedere Miss, Elvis Trujillo; Gary A. Tanaka's Ms Brookski, Robby Albarado; John D. Gunther's Saratoga Cat, Corey Lanerie; Northwest Farms' Strikes No Spares, Frank Lovato Jr.; and R. Otto Stables Inc.'s Summer Mis, Randall Meier.
Of these, Ms Brookski brings the most impressive credentials to the table. The daughter of Montbrook was impressive last winter when taking the Grade II Davona Dale Stakes at Gulfstream Park by three and three-quarter lengths. Previously, the Niall O'Callaghan charge won the $100,000 Brave Raj Stakes and the $100,000 Three Ring Stakes at Calder Race Course. The Singapore Plate will mark her first start since running seventh in the Grade I Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on May 3.
The Tony Mitchell-trained Summer Mis, an Illinois-foaled daughter of Summer Squall, seeks her third straight score over this oval after capturing the $75,000 Purple Violet Stakes over state-bred rivals in June and an open company second-level allowance race last month.
Strikes No Spares, a winner in a first-level allowance race here July 7, is stakes placed on the turf this year in the $100,000 Summertime Promise Breeders' Cup Stakes at Hawthorne Race Course and in the Flawlessly here.
Saratoga Cat has won her last two starts, capturing a $50,000 claiming race at Churchill Downs in May and a first-level allowance race at Arlington in June.
Belvedere Miss ran second to Strikes No Spares in a July 7 allowance race after breaking her maiden in her previous trip to the post June 16.
