Galloping Out Horse Rescue Program Relies on Support from Illinois Horsemen

Galloping Out Horse Rescue Depends on Horsemen Donations of $10 Per Start for Funding; Purse Monies No Longer Support the Program

Funding Mechanism for ITHA's Horse Rescue Program Has Changed; Galloping Out Encourages All Illinois Horsemen to Continue Funding this Vital Program Through $10 Per Start

Letter from the Board of Directors of Galloping Out

Though Galloping Out previously enjoyed support from the purse account, the program no longer receives any funding directly from purses.

Effective May 2013, the horse rescue program is funded exclusively by horsemen's voluntary contributions of $10 per start and any revenue generated through fundraisers.

Illinois horsemen have the option of opting out of the $10-per-start contribution, but doing so deprives Galloping Out of the support necessary to continue re-homing Illinois Thoroughbreds.

This program serves the best interest of horsemen and the preservation of horse racing, but it depends on you - the professional trainers and owners of Thoroughbreds - for support.

On behalf of the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, Galloping Out provides funding for the rescue, care, rehabilitation and retraining of off-the-track Thoroughbreds.

The program's third anniversary is June 1, 2013, and we are proud to report we have re-homed 60 Thoroughbreds. Another 24 horses are in the program and have been placed at farms for ultimate adoption.

We encourage all Illinois horsemen to continue their support of this humane program that, when their racing days are over, does right by the magnificent equine athletes who have given their all for our sport.

The continued vitality of this program depends directly on this support from you and other Illinois horsemen.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors of Galloping Out

Galloping Out Rescue Fund is a cooperative effort between Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association Inc., Arlington Park and Hawthorne Race Course.
