Brandon Meier conscious after accident
Popular rider Brandon Meier was unseated at the top of the stretch in the eighth race at Hawthorne Race Course Friday afternoon when his mount, Bedroom Eyes, clipped heels with Beauty of Scarlet.
Meier was conscious and moving around and was being tended to in the jock’s room after the incident but will be taken to Loyola Medical Center for a more complete evaluation. Updates will be forthcoming as more information becomes available.
Beauty of Scarlet with Seth Martinez aboard went on to finish second but was disqualified and placed sixth.

Hawthorne Race Course has been Chicago's "hometown track" for 122 years and currently offers the only traditional dirt racing for Thoroughbreds in northern Illinois. Hawthorne's spring meet opens February 15 and runs through April. Live racing is hosted Friday through Sunday in February and Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in March and April.
