TRACKSIDE OTB SUMMER HANDICAPPING CONTEST SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

One DRF/NTRA NHC Trip, Two Trips to Horseplayer World Series, Other Prizes to be Awarded

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (April 25, 2013) – Trackside OTB has planned a number of live-money handicapping contests to be held concurrently with the Arlington International Racecourse summer racing season from May through September.

In the summer of 2013, Trackside will determine one horseplayer to be sent to the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship (NHC) in Las Vegas in January 2014 and two fans to the 2014 Horse Player World Series (HWS) in Las Vegas in March 2014. The first Trackside handicapping contest is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, at Trackside Waukegan.

As in past years, each individual contest this summer will be free-standing, meaning the top finisher in the May and June contests will win a trip to Las Vegas for the 2014 HWS while the winner of the two-day contest in September will earn an expense-paid berth into the 2014 NHC.

The Trackside contests closely replicate a day at the races. Each contestant funds a $100 contest wagering account ($600 wagering account - $300 each day for the NTRA qualifier) and tries to run up the biggest balance he or she can, just like every day at the races. The highest account balance on a contest wins a trip to Las Vegas for the designated contest. Each contest’s next two finishers win cash prizes.

The mechanics of the contest have also been simplified. The contestant signs in at the registration table at the designated Trackside OTB location on the day of the contest. There is no entry fee. The contestant exchanges $100 (or $300 each day for the NTRA contest) for a contest wagering card (limit two entries). The card is a plastic voucher that is used for contest wagers and makes it easy to keep track of all contest wagering. The balance on the contest wagering card always remains the property of the contestant.

The contest wagering card can only be used at self-service terminals. Since such terminals are available throughout each Trackside facility, contest players can participate from anywhere in the designated facility for that day’s contest.

Each Trackside Handicapping Contest will be preceded by a handicapping seminar conducted by Scott McMannis. The seminars, which are free just like the contests, will begin approximately one hour before Arlington’s first post, and McMannis will remain in the area to answer questions.

In addition to the above listed contests, Trackside Orland Hills will be offering its own Trackside Challenge on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons during May with cash prizes.

Also, throughout the summer various Trackside locations will offer a “Pony Up Pool” where fans can share in a wagering pool managed by a handicapper from HorsePlayerNow.com.

Finally, all Trackside OTB locations will offer a handicapping contest centering on the Hambletonian at The Meadowlands on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The complete schedule of Trackside OTB Summer Contest and Pony Up Pools are as follows:

Sunday, May 5: Pony Up Pool at Trackside Orland Hills
Saturday, May 11: Horse Player World Series qualifier at Trackside Waukegan*
Saturday, June 15: Horse Player World Series qualifier at Trackside Hodgkins*
Sunday, July 28: Pony Up Pool at Trackside Chicago
Saturday, August 3: Hambletonian Handicapping Contest at all Trackside locations
Saturday, Aug. 10: Pony Up Pool at Trackside Orland Hills
Saturday, Sept. 7: NTRA Feeder contest at Trackside Waukegan
Saturday/Sunday, Sept. 21-22: DRF/NTRA NHC Qualifier at Trackside Villa Park*

*Features a handicapping seminar from Scott McMannis
