$455,000 OVERNIGHT STAKES PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (April 24, 2013) – A schedule of seven overnight stakes races worth an aggregate $455,000 for the 2013 meet was announced by Arlington International Racecourse Director of Racing and Racing Secretary Chris Polzin. Each of the overnight stakes will carry a purse of $65,000.
First up will be the Meafara Stakes, a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies, followed by a pair of 1 1/16-mile turf races on June 15 which will serve as preps for Million Preview Day events. The Swoon’s Son can be used as prep for either the Arlington Handicap or Stars and Stripes while the Gaily Gaily will be a prep for the Modesty Handicap.
There will be a pair of main track races for 3-year-olds – the Coach Jimi Lee at seven furlongs on Million Preview Day July 13 and the Straight Line at one mile on Million Day Aug. 17.
Finally, Illinois-owned horses will be featured on Sept. 21 with open and distaff divisions of the Illinois Owners Stakes, each at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf.
