Handicapping seminar hosted by handicapper M. Scott McMannis added attraction

VILLA PARK, Ill. (January 23, 2012) – Handicappers yet to qualify for the 2013 Coast Casino's Horseplayer World Series (HPWS) need not despair. On Saturday, Feb. 2 Trackside Off-Track Betting in Villa Park is offering a last-chance contest to earn a berth to the HPWS. In addition, handicapper Scott McMannis will conduct a seminar beginning at 11:30 am.

All players need to do to participate is purchase a $100 contest wagering card at the registration table and wager on at least one Thoroughbred race with a scheduled post time before is 6:30 pm Central time. Registration will begin at 11 am CT and close at 3 pm CT.

At the end of the contest, the player who has accumulated the highest bankroll (subject to verification) will be the winner of the HPWS berth (a $1,500 value) and $350 to be used toward their travel to Las Vegas for the HPWS later in February where first prize is estimated to be $300,000 and other cash prizes. The winner of this contest must be able to travel to Las Vegas for the HPWS – there is no cash equivalent prize.

The runner-up in the contest will earn a $500 wagering voucher with third-place earning a $250 wagering voucher.

“We wanted to give our handicappers one more chance to qualify for this year’s Horseplayer World Series,” explained Brittany Habbick, OTB Marketing Specialist for Arlington’s Trackside OTBs. “I hope that the winner of this contest or any one of our contests during the past year takes home the big prize at the Horpseplayer World Series.”

The contest will be organic to a typical day at the track, meaning that players will have the flexibility to wager in more pools (Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta, and multi-race wagers such as the Pick 3 and Pick 4) than in most other contests and have freedom to participate from any location within only the designated Trackside Off-Track Betting facility as there is no need for assigned contest wagering windows. However, all wagers must be made using the contest card at self-service terminals only. Players may invest winnings into future wagers. For complete contest rules, visit Arlington Park’s Web site at

HorsePlayer magazine Midwest correspondent M. Scott McMannis will conduct a handicapping seminar that day beginning at 11:30 am and will remain on hand to answer questions throughout the afternoon. For more details, visit the McMannis blog at
